Quick Tips on Time Management
It is important to learn how to manage your time wisely. The skills and disciplines that you develop as a student in managing your time can help you for the rest of your life. Here are some tips to help you develop good time management skills:
Create a schedule
At the beginning of each week, plan the major activities, projects and assigments that you will be doing. Decide how much time each acitivity will take, for example 30 minutes or an hour. Add some buffer time as some projects may take longer than expected.
Decide what works for you
Some students prefer paper planners (e.g. weekly or daily planners) while others prefer phone apps. Try both paper planners and apps to decide what works best for you, and stick with it.
Use little chunks of time
Waiting for your extra-curricular activity to start? Instead of checking out your friends on Instagram, you can use the free time fruitfully. Tackling your homework or assignment in little chunks lets you finish your assignment faster. Spending ten minutes to write a paragraph means that you have less to do later.
Don't be afraid to say "No"
If you have a lot of homework or need to study for a test tomorrow, don't be afraid to decline last-minute invitations from friends to meet up! To compensate for that, you can suggest another time to meet up based on your schedule.
Take scheduled breaks
After studying for an hour, give yourself a 15-minute break to do whatever you like. Be careful not to let this 15 minutes become the rest of the day, unless you have finished everything on your schedule.
